Lyn Knight Currency Auctions is currently selling one of the rarest $20 bills to never have been printed by the Federal Reserve. The Schaffner family, the descendents of the founders of Wachovia Loan and Trust Company, discovered this bill, along with a $5 note, in the safe deposit box of their grandfather, Henry Fries Shaffner. What makes these bills unique are that they were legal U.S. tender at the time, even though they were not printed by the U.S. government.
